Oirat People
The Oirat people are a semi-nomadic people who live along the China-Mongolia border in an area covering 40,000 square miles. They raise sheep, goats, horses (they are skilled horsemen), camels, and sometimes yaks. There are around 250,000 Oirats living in China. Their religion is a mixture of Tibetan Buddhism and shamanism. The Oirat live their whole lives attempting to reach nirvana, the state of nothingness, through a system of merits and demerits. There are no Christian groups working with the Oirat at this time and we are uncertain if any of them are Christians.
We have spent the last several years praying for these people. The pictures below were taken several years ago by some people who made contact with them. One day we too will have the opportunity to see the Oirat face to face.
